Question 1 of 4

What do you need painted?

Freshly painted sage-green kitchen cabinets with a smooth sprayed finish in an Orlando home

Why the island

The island is the centerpiece. It takes the most wear and the most eyes. Painting just the island costs less than the full kitchen and delivers most of the visual change.

Popular Orlando pairings

Same process, smaller footprint

Islands get the full treatment — degrease, sand, prime, spray, cure. Because it is one piece, most islands are done in two to three days. Often scheduled alongside a full kitchen cabinet painting job.

Our process for islands

One piece, full treatment.

Picking the island color

The island color must relate to the rest of the kitchen. Start with your perimeter cabinets, then pick the bold tone that sits well next to them. White perimeters take almost any island color. Greige perimeters love green and navy.

Look at your fixed elements too. Counters, backsplash, floors — the island should talk to them, not fight them. Bring photos of everything to the visit, or better, have us see it in person.

When in doubt, go darker than the perimeter, not lighter. Dark islands ground the kitchen. Light islands can look washed out.

The two-tone rules that work

One bold, one calm. Two bold colors fight. Two calm colors look unfinished. The contrast is the point.

Repeat the island color somewhere small. Bar stools. A runner rug. Open shelf brackets. One echo makes it look planned.

Keep the ceiling and walls quiet. A bold island plus busy walls is too much. Let the island be the star.

Island-only vs. whole kitchen

Island-only is the budget move. Two to three days. A fraction of the full kitchen price. Most of the visual change.

Whole kitchen plus island is the full transformation. Same process, bigger scope. Many homeowners start with the island and come back for the rest later. We are fine with that.

Either way, the island gets the same prep and the same sprayed finish. No shortcuts for small jobs.

Caring for a painted island

Islands take the most abuse in the kitchen. Feet kick the base. Stools bump the sides. Wipe scuffs early with mild soap.

The seating overhang gets leaned on. Check it now and then for chips. Small chips are easy to touch up.

Put felt pads on stool feet. It is a five-minute job that saves the finish.

Waterfall panels and furniture-style islands

Some islands have waterfall panels — the counter material runs down the sides. We paint the cabinet parts and mask the stone or quartz precisely. The line between them stays razor sharp.

Furniture-style islands look like a separate piece, with legs or a different profile. These take bold color best. They were designed to stand out. A deep green or navy furniture island is a classic.

Islands with seating need extra-durable finish on the overhang side. Feet, bags, and chair backs hit it daily. We use our hardest topcoat there.

Islands with cooktops or sinks need heat and moisture care. We seal around cutouts carefully and use finishes rated for the zone.

Whatever your island style, the process is the same: full prep, sprayed finish, careful cure. Small piece, same discipline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you paint just my island?

Yes. Island-only jobs are common and take two to three days.

What is the most popular island color?

Navy blue is the long-time favorite, with deep greens close behind. Both pair well with white or greige cabinets.

Will the island color clash with my cabinets?

We bring samples to your visit and check the colors together in your kitchen light before anything is sprayed.

Can the island be a different sheen than the cabinets?

It can, but we usually recommend matching the sheen. Same sheen looks planned. Different sheens can look like a mistake.

What if I want to change the island color later?

Easy. Repainting one island is a quick job. Many homeowners treat the island as the changeable accent.

Do you paint the inside of the island cabinets?

Standard is the outside faces. Interiors can be added — tell us at the visit.

Can you paint the island legs a different color?

Yes. A two-tone island — body one color, legs another — is a sharp look. Tell us at the visit and we will plan the masking.

My island has open shelves. Can those be painted?

Yes. Open shelves get the same sprayed finish. They show wear faster than doors, so we use a hard topcoat.
